“In a world so divided, thank you for truly bringing so many people together just to share a moment with this piece of history.” –lynzsayanthing, Instagram (commenting on Union Pacific Railroad’s IG)
Union Pacific’s famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will journey to the East Coast this summer for the first time as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The tour includes a Fourth of July celebration in Philadelphia, major display events in eight cities and more than 50 whistle-stops in 10 states, including stops for the first time in Indiana, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania.
Big Boy No. 4014 is the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. Of the eight remaining Big Boys in existence today, No. 4014 is the only one still in operation.
Lucky for all of us here in the Philly area and Delaware Valley, we get to enjoy the legend of Big Boy 4014 this week with multiple appearances and “drive bys.”
Called the “Elvis Presley” of steam locomotives, Big Boy No. 4014 will make its way through Montgomery County twice in one week and then head to South Philly in honor of America’s 250th Birthday.
There is so much excitement about its first ever trip to our area, there is a Facebook Public Group Page with 8,400 members here called “Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy Visit to Philly”
