The town of Marcus Hook was occupied by Dutch, Swedish and Finnish settlers as early as the 1640s, when it was part of what was called “New Sweden.” In the early 1700s, Marcus Hook’s historical significance was a haven for pirates who plagued the lower Delaware River.

Much of Marcus Hook’s historical significance, in fact, comes from its identity as a maritime town. It also played a very important role in the history of the U.S. during the American Revolution

National Talk Like a Pirate Day

Ahoy there, ye scurvy dog! What a most wondrous tale of swashbucklin’ ye’ve spun for us seafarin’ folk!
Me own motley crew and I didst recently return from such a grand pirate festivity – by Blackbeard’s ghost, ’twas the most splendid adventure we’ve had since we first took to the briny deep! The wee buccaneers were most entranced by the blade-crossin’ spectacles, and we all bellowed forth the ancient sea chanties like true sons and daughters of the Caribbean!

Me fair maiden bride didst look most fetching in her corsair garb and claimed victory in the costume merriment – a prize most well-deserved, says I!

Verily, ’tis gatherings such as these that doth remind this weathered sea dog that one’s kin be worth more doubloons than all of Captain Kidd’s buried gold!

I doff me tricorn hat to ye for sharin’ such a rousing fest- ye’ve set this old privateer’s heart ablaze with wanderlust for the next maritime revelry upon the horizon!
