A Montco mompreneur is giving everyone plenty of ‘pumpkin’ to talk about!

From Patch to Porch, the Prim Way! Jan Gilchrist takes the hustle and hassle out of seasonal decorating with her concierge pumpkin delivery service, Prim + Pumpkin.

PSL. The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Linvilla’s Pumpkinland. Yes, it is that time of year that pumpkin spice (latte) and everything oh-so-nice has us all in a good mood. But in an instagrammable and ever bustling world, the burden and time to decorate your house in its autumnal glory, worthy of your IG story, can most definitely fall by the wayside. Why sweat the big stuff—like yes seeking out and hauling back those 40 lb+ pumpkins—when you can hire a pro to do it?

To the rescue is Montco’s Jan Gilchrist–owner and creative visionary of Prim + Pumpkin, a concierge pumpkin delivery and design company servicing houses and businesses in the greater Philadelphia area.

The 44 year-old Plymouth Whitemarsh and Penn State grad hung up her corporate title earlier this year to embrace more time with her husband Troy and their three young children. Included in that ‘second act’ was the pumpkin biz that is booming with local interest thanks to Gilchrist’s social media savvy–which includes fun behind the scenes journeys to mysterious pumpkin patches bursting with tens of thousands of gorgeous gourds in dozens of autumnal hues. We went one-on-one for a deep dive with this magnificent Fairy Godmother of Montco Pumpkinland to learn more.

AML: What is Prim + Pumpkin?

We’re a locally based concierge pumpkin delivery and décor service. From sourcing the season’s best pumpkins to full porch styling, we bring the magic of fall right to your door.

How does the process work?

Choose the package that best fits your porch and delivery week. Some include design, while others allow you to add it — along with extras like hay bales, seasonal accents, or end-of-season pickup. We encourage you to share a photo of your porch for tailored recommendations! We’ll deliver your pumpkins, style them if desired, and handle everything so you can simply enjoy a beautifully decorated fall porch.

What got you into the pumpkin business?

I decided to shift my career so I could be more present with my family. When I discovered the original Porch Pumpkins® in Dallas, TX, I was instantly drawn to the idea — it sounded like such a fun, creative way to bring seasonal warmth and happiness right to people’s homes. After business coaching and consulting with Heather, the founder, the rest quickly fell into place.

What were you doing before this?

I built my career in the clinical research industry, serving in roles spanning strategic planning, resourcing, and consulting sales.

What are you most looking forward to in your first year?

I’m excited to bring a sense of ease and joy to people’s busy lives. Managing ‘all the things’ isn’t always easy, and I’m thrilled to offer a service that helps take one thing off the list!

What is something you’ve learned about pumpkins that might surprise other people?

The sheer variety is just incredible — there are hundreds of types, and the number changes depending on whether you look regionally or worldwide.

Favorite pumpkin?

Porcelain Doll — pastel and dreamy. The first thing people always ask is whether they’re real or painted!

Wawa, Dunkin or Starbucks PSL for you?

Starbucks, but I also just love local coffee shops – my favorite is ‘feine in Conshohocken!

It is very ‘bippity boppity boo’ what you are doing here. But can you give us any insight into the creativity and magic that is happening…

I’ve learned this very organically. The more porches and pumpkins you see, the more you develop a feel for what will look just right at each unique home. It’s not always about the biggest package of pumpkins— it’s about finding that perfect balance between too little and too much, tailored to each client’s style and space. I often chat with new clients to help them choose the right package, and that’s where the creativity really shines through. Every installation is designed for them, with the goal of bringing joy the moment they see their decorated porch.

A little bird told us one of your packages is all green and white hues. We bleed green over here too! Do tell!

We’re a big Eagles family, so what better way to celebrate our Super Bowl champs than by blending two of our favorite fall things — football and pumpkins! We are offering a beautiful green and white package this year and expect it to be very popular. With two little boys who belt out the Eagles chant on repeat, ‘Fly, Gourds, Fly’ has been in my head since day one.

Why does someone need styled porch pumpkins?

We make it easy to enjoy all the fun of fall without the work or mess. You can still visit the pumpkin patch if you’d like, but we handle the heavy lifting — from delivery and styling to end-of-season pick-up. Fall is busy enough, so coming home to a beautifully decorated porch (and a ready-made photo backdrop!) lets you truly savor the season.
