Moms in and around Delaware County…you deserve a girl’s night out! How about a fantastic treat at The Gables at Chadds Ford courtesy of AML starting Tuesday, February 7th?

Cool History

Wondering about this gorgeous property you have probably passed by dozens of times on Baltimore Pike? The Gables at Chadds Ford is situated on land that was originally part of a 138 acre land grant from William Penn to Brinton King. Around 1745, a pre-Revolutionary style house was built on the property. One of the first homes to be built in Pennsbury Township, the property operated as a working farm and quietly became part of the Brandywine Valley’s history. The route along Route One is well known to have housed numerous stops for the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. It has been suspected that the King house may have been one of these stops.

The house was renovated in the late 1800s by George C. King, son of Brinton King. He adopted the popular Victorian style by adding wrap around porches and twenty three gables. And, two of the four original chimneys from the pre-Revolutionary style home are still visible. In March of 2002, the house was placed on the National Historic Register.

The Museum’s famous critter ornaments may be purchased in the Museum Shop. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Volunteers' Art Purchase Fund, which has added more than 200 paintings, drawings and prints to the Museum's holdings since 1975.

Fanciful illustrations for a children’s book, a spectacular model train display, and adorable “critter” ornaments will transform the Brandywine River Museum into a holiday treat during A Brandywine Christmas, November 26, 2010 through January 9, 2011.

The special exhibition, The Imaginary Beasts of Royal Lacey Scoville, presents 38 fanciful watercolors that form an original narrative written and illustrated by Royal Lacey Scoville for his daughter Eleanore. Based on the style of Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, and Peter Newell, Scoville tells the story of the lazy Tom Tompkins and the wizard, Tumblebug, who casts a spell on Tom. Tompkins, startled from an afternoon nap, stares in horror at the gigantic snake with a multicolored head and gaping mouth. Tom, under the spell cast by the wizard, cannot escape the snake’s coils and joins the 35 other imaginary creatures ensnared by the snake.

Thousands of adorable “critters,” created from natural materials by Conservancy volunteers are on view throughout the Museum. In honor of the 80th Radnor Hunt Races earlier this year, the critters are off to the races too! A new themed tree this holiday season, “Tally Ho,” features horses with jockeys, jumping horses, rearing horses, carriages, hounds and foxes are just some of the ornaments created in celebration of the sport of horse racing. Six years ago a small group of wineries in Chester County, PA, joined forces to create the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail in southeastern Pennsylvania. Today the region continues to grow in both acres of vineyards and numbers of wineries. Each winery has its own distinct personality for you to discover as you tour our vineyards, taste in our cellars, and picnic on our grounds.

Spanning scenic southeastern Pennsylvania between historic Philadelphia and the Amish countryside outside Lancaster, the eight wineries of the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail are located within an easy drive of one another (within a 50 mile radius).

All wineries are open year round for your enjoyment. So come visit our tasting rooms and learn more about the unique characteristics of Brandywine Valley Wine Country!

Main Line Restaurant Week is Philadelphia’s largest suburban dining event!

It was most certainly a week of culinary delights to remember! 38 restaurants participated in the inaugural Main Line Restaurant Week, organized by AroundMainLine.com. This incredible celebration of the region’s finest chefs proved to be the most successful restaurant event to date in the Philadelphia suburbs.

Main Line Restaurant Week, which offered fixed price dinner menus for the entire week of September 27th through October 3rd, brought tens of thousands of locals out to support the western suburbs’ tastiest restaurants. “I’m so proud to have worked closely with so many of the area’s best restaurants. There has never been a dining event of this magnitude in the suburbs and I felt our area was long overdue. Many restaurants are reporting they had record weeks or were sold out several of the nights, so I know we have a good thing going here. I am thrilled everything turned out so well!” enthused Main Line Restaurant Week founder Sarah Lockard. Read the full story

It is the Philadelphia suburb’s largest dining event ever—Main Line Restaurant Week! Created and organized by AroundMainLine.com, a week of culinary delights awaits thousands of foodies across the western suburbs starting tomorrow night, September 27th and running through October 3rd, 2010.

I have been a huge fan of the Main Line and western suburb dining scene having grown up here. And, we have some of the best chefs in the region and the most successful restaurants right in our own backyard. To me, it was due time to bring Main Line Restaurant Week to life this fall. When I announced the launch in early May, the immediate and enthusiastic response from our 2,200 AroundMainLine.com Facebook fans proved that we were on our way to a very successful event.

Here’s how it works. Our restaurants offer a prix fixe, three course dinner menu for one of the four tiers: dinner for $15, $20, $30 or $40. In addition, starting Monday night September 27th, we will kick off the first of eight special events that are a part of Main Line Restaurant Week with a ‘Monday Night Meetup’ at The Desmond in Malvern!
