Saturday, March 13th from 1 to 4pm

The third annual Great Narberth Leprechaun Hunt is being held in downtown Narberth on Saturday, March 13, from 1pm – 4pm. The annual event, courtesy of The Narberth Business Association, is an anticipated Main Line family tradition. Local kids, young and old at heart, can get St. Patty’s Day started early with this free family event. Kids hunt all over downtown Narberth for leprechauns, and collect treats along the way. Find them all, and get a prize at the end. The hunt goes until 4 pm or until prizes are gone.

This fun, challenging scavenger hunt allows kids to search all over town to find thirteen leprechauns. Children start the hunt by getting a map and a game card and an empty pot o’ gold from the Blarney Booth at the corner of Haverford and Forrest Avenues. They get treats as they find the leprechauns, who are hiding in shops all over town. Once they’ve found all thirteen leprechauns, they return to the booth for a prize. The hunt lasts until 4pm or until all prizes are gone.

Dr. Catherine Foote, a Lower Merion high school grad who boasts an undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, is a third generation dentist.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. So, there is no better time to catch up with one of the Main Line’s most beloved orthodontists—Bryn Mawr’s Dr. Catherine Foote. Foote, an Ardmore native, Lower Merion grad and third generation dentist holds an undergraduate degree from The University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Foote dedicated ten years to higher education at the University of Pennsylvania where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology followed by a DMD degree and Certificate of Orthodontics. In her state of the art, newly renovated office across from Bryn Mawr Hospital, Dr. Foote treats both children and adults, offering traditional braces, ceramic braces, Invisalign, and take-home whitening.

Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. NCDHM messages and materials have reached millions of people in communities across the country. According to the ADA, developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

It’s shop till you drop at the Main Line’s premier holiday shopping event, nine weeks before the hectic holiday season descends upon us. And locals don’t have to brave the crowd at nearby malls to find a gift for every person on their list! Shipley Shops, now in its 49th year, kicks off next Wednesday evening with a preview party and runs through Saturday October 24th. The annual popular fundraiser for the school offers Main Liners one fantastic variety of beautiful retail products with vendors from across the Delaware Valley-and across the country.

Shipley Shops features perennial favorites like Bella Casa (fine home accessories), Jacques Ferber’s (luxurious furs and outerwear), Jane Roth (vintage jewelry), Occhio Bags (one-of-a-kind handbags), and Tuyet Jewelry (handcrafted custom jewelry). Men sometimes make the best cheerleaders. And I’m not talking about the buffed co-eds who put on polyester, sleek-fitting university uniforms and twirl their female counterparts in the air on the sidelines of college football and basketball games. I’m talking about dads.

When I played field hockey at Archbishop Carroll in the glory days of my high school years (we dominated the Catholic League from 1989-92), one of my favorite parts of my game-day routine was waiting for my parents to take their place along the sideline fence. I knew they were always coming to the games to cheer me on, but seeing them arrive just gave me a feeling of reassurance.

It was truly an affair to remember! Hundreds of Main Liners and city slickers ‘dressed to impress and donated to make a difference’ (as the invitation suggested) as Philadelphia’s first e-magazine, AroundMainLine.com, successfully hosted their first fundraiser and local event. Be Mine on the Main Line brought out over 300 guests to Blush Restaurant & Bar in Bryn Mawr on Friday, February 6th in an awesome display of support for the Pennsylvania SPCA.

“What can I say about Be Mine? It was a night that was most rewarding for everyone involved. And, a total team effort from top to bottom. As Philadelphia’s first e-magazine, AroundMainLine.com has worked very hard to develop great friendships with local businesses in a short period of time and, in this economy, we have figured out a way to tap into those resources, connect the dots, and bring a local community together unlike anyone else—online. Combined with the enthusiasm we have received since our September 30th launch and an amazing new partnership with the PSPCA, this was an event that wowed the region. We are quite proud,” said Sarah Lockard, AroundMainLine.com CEO and Publisher. Added Nick Chapman, PSPCA Special Events Planner:”The Pennsylvania SPCA thanks AroundMainLine.com for their efforts to help homeless animals in the state of Pennsylvania. Be Mine on the Main Line was an amazing success, raising over $2,000 to help rescue, rehabilitate and re-home animals in need. We at the Pennsylvania SPCA are honored to work with fantastic people like those at AroundMainLine.com.”

D-Rod wants to know, ‘Where’s the party at?’ Blush Restaurant & Bar in Bryn Mawr Feb. 6th, 7pm

As many of you who know me or can see through my online magazine, my commitment to animals and animal causes is strong. I believe faithfully in having pets in my life, especially when times are tough. I grew up in a big cat family, namely because my parents have a house of beautiful old hardwood floors and antiques and it never meshed well as a dog house. About a month ago, I lost one of my most beloved and beautiful cats, Daisy, to cancer. It’s been years since I’ve had a pet pass away and I had forgotten what an emotional rollercoaster it is.

As a Main Line lifer and confessed full-time people watcher, the rapidly changing face of suburban men’s fashion has been clearly evident to me over the past year. From preppy private school students strolling around downtown Wayne, to fresh college grads enjoying happy hour at the neighborhood Great American Pub, to retiring baby boomers hitting the links at Aronimink, the Main Line young, middle-age and ‘seasoned’ man is more discerning with his personable wardrobe than ever. As AML’s resident fashionista, I went straight to the hippest new men’s store on the Main Line, Pants in Bryn Mawr, to find out what exactly has set the stage for these local style icons, what guys need to wear this fall and why the Main Line (fashion) boys are back in town.
