AroundMainLine.com: Where did the concept of Hatch, well, hatch from? Pardon our pun!
Brittany Bollard: I gave birth to our first child, Wyatt Remington, last January, and every day has been a gift. I took a break from my current job (at Anthropologie), with a few small projects in between, to concentrate on being the best mom I could be. When I truly defined success, I began to come up with ways that I could fulfill all of these aspects in my life. And, I feel like I truly embodied modern motherhood. Opening Hatch has allowed me to fulfill my creative needs, parallel my personal and professional experiences, and in return share with other moms in my community. Hatch is truly a mecca for modern moms, bringing fun gifting, gear, and clothing to Ambler!
AML: What makes this different from a traditional baby boutique?
BB: We are offering nursery and event design, as well as in store events and classes for new moms, baby, toddler, etc. We are so excited to be working with a new baby consultant firm, It Takes a Village, who will offer specialized workshops on all stages of early childhood development.
AML: There really is no baby boutique with Hatch’s approach anywhere in the burbs. So filling this niche for the savvy mom-to-be and new mom, who is seeking that certain level of sophistication when it ‘comes to baby’, is a smart retail move on your part.
BB: Thank you! I have tried to fill a void that I have found myself (as a new hip mom) always looking for unique accessories and gifts for myself and others. People were constantly commenting to me “Where did you find that!?” I have brought that place to Ambler.
AML: How has social media helped your business get off the ground? Your Facebook page is incredibly popular!

“Hatch is truly a mecca for modern moms-bringing fun gifting, gear, and clothing to Ambler,” enthuses Bollard.
BB: Social Media has allowed us to get our name out there immediately. We were able to post pictures of items in the store and potential customers knew right away we have items for them! I am all about immediate gratification…by the amount of online sales I have made before our website is even up and running…apparently I’m not alone.
AML: Talk about your plans to use the retail space for classes and mommy meetups—what is in the works?
BB: We are so excited to involve our community. Though we have a small space, we are able to hold classes for ‘Mommy and Me.’ From yoga to music to sign language as well as classes just for mom and dad, Hatch will be offering workshops on sleep, nutrition, potty training, and more. There has been a demand for mom’s night out/new mom’s coffee breaks where moms can come shop, socialize and share advice. We are especially excited for our momtography class with photographer Nina Price and Easter mini sessions she will be hosting here with baby bunnies!
AML: Now that the world knows the Royal Baby is on the way, what would make a perfect gift for Wills and Kate that Hatch carries?
BB: I adore a line of layettes that has been designed by Magnificent Baby featuring an exclusive royal print in honor of the royal baby. I think Kate would be a huge fan of Hatch’s right bank baby reversible dresses, modern fresh prints in traditional silhouettes. And if it is a prince? Our collection of bowties and suspenders are absolutely scrumptious!
