If you follow AroundMainLine.com on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you probably noticed my personal summer journey of health and fitness.

I decided to regain control of my nutrition and body and hired Malvern’s Eric McGee of Everfit as my personal trainer.

Eric and I embarked on a ‘Summer of Skinny’ together and are now moving into a ‘Fit Fall’ with workouts 5-6 times a week, nutrition counseling and more.

Eric has changed my life, I can’t say enough about how talented a person he is.

If you are looking to become fit, contact Eric (ejmcgee@hotmail.com), you will be in great hands.

P.S. Stay tuned for a ‘Mix and Mingle’ coming up in October at Everfit!

AroundMainLine.com: What is Everfit?

Eric McGee: Everfit encompasses all aspects of living a healthy lifestyle. We provide our clients with high-end, comprehensive services that cater to individuals looking for “The Best”. Our fully equipped 8,000 square foot facility provides a platform for people of all ages to achieve a better level of health and fitness through quality training, nutrition and coaching provided by the top team of trainers and specialists working together. The Everfit team is comprised of degreed, certified, experienced professionals who are passionate about their jobs.

AML: Talk about your background. What road led to you this career?

EM: Having been an athlete all my life, I learned the importance of living a healthy lifestyle first hand. Prior to making health and fitness my full time job, I worked for 13 years as a desk-jockey in corporate America. During that time I helped many of my co-workers learn how to eat clean and exercise properly, they became my first clients. I completed every certification I could in order to allow me work with the wide variety of clients that I see on a daily basis.

AML: What makes Everfit a different experience than your traditional gym?

EM: The difference between Everfit and every ‘other’ general membership gym out there is that Everfit is not a gym. Everfit is a Specialized Training Facility focused on educating clients and designing a program tailored for each individual based on their ability and goals. Everfit has it all-Personal Training, Group Training, Various Classes, Yoga, Pilates, Nutrition Design and all the encouragement you can handle.

AML: Working together with you has been amazing. What has been your approach with me?

EM: I make it a point to learn about every one of my clients by starting with a very simple question “What is your goal?” This may sound like I am oversimplifying things-but it all starts with a single step, define the goal. Once the goal is set the rest is easy-my approach is easy to follow. I tell my clients to have an internal dialogue with themselves asking “Is this decision going to help me reach my goal?” I’m available to my clients 24×7 via phone, text, email in order to help them ‘stay on track’. Having a support system is a big part of my client’s success.

AML: Let’s talk about food. My nemesis. And what got me down the wrong path and lifestyle to being with.

EM: I say this everyday “Food is 90% of living a healthy lifestyle”. We eat many times each and every day without any direction other than convenience. As a society we are bombarded with so many great marketing slogans “vegan, organic, low fat, low sodium, low carb, gluten free and last but not least HEALTHY”. Food is so confusing!!! What should you eat to be healthy? I teach all of my clients how food works in their bodies. What is a Healthy Choice and WHY?

AML: You are a certified nutritionist. What are some very big misconceptions you encounter with clients regularly?

EM: The biggest nutrition misconception I encounter is the mindset that you have to starve yourself in order to lose weight. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Our bodies were made to work…this also includes our digestion system. When someone decides to “stop eating” in order to lose weight their metabolism shuts down. We call this “The Starvation Mode”. Let me simplify, if you go without food, yes you will lose weight….BUT once you eat anything you will hold onto it as fat because the body does not know when it will be fed again. I teach my clients when and why to eat certain foods in order to keep their metabolism high naturally. It’s pretty amazing to watch this happen!!

AML: One thing I have learned from you is how MUCH work & discipline I have to do on my own outside of our one hour time together each day. People say (to me) “Oh, it’s easy…you are with Eric every day.” But once I walk out the doors its on me.

Couple with that…I’m almost 39. And the amount of cardio and self-monitoring of my diet I have to do surprised me. It’s hard, intense stuff!

EM: Losing weight is not easy. It requires a 24×7 dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Over the years I have seen many people at local gyms work very hard to look the “same” year after year and I know exactly why. They are missing one of the most important variables needed to drop fat, CARDIO! Fat is burned by keeping your body temperature high for a long period of time. Think of this… A calorie is a measure of heat and our bodies “burn” energy when we exercise. So in order to maximize calories slow and steady wins the race.

AML: I love Everfit. It’s approachable, it’s inspiring and when I walk in, it feels like family to me. Your team is awesome, welcoming and supportive. You folks have got it going on!

EM: Everfit is a family and everyone that walks in the door is welcomed as a new member. We all know how hard it is to make the decision to make a life change and leave your Comfort Zone. This is scary stuff! All of our clients and staff are very aware of this. We are very supportive of anyone that is on the fence about making the leap to The Healthy Side. The greatest thing I notice about our facility is that everyone here walks around with a positive attitude that is contagious.
