A ride on the West Chester Railroad’s Santa Express this holiday season offers kids young and old a trip back to a simple time along the beautiful Chester Creek in Chester County. The route is part of the old Pennsylvania Railroad central division on the West Chester and Phoenixville branch.

West Chester Railroad is hosting its first Christmas Tree train this holiday season! For the first time, we have partnered with Wiggins Tree Farm in West Chester, PA. The train will board at the intersection of Adams St. and Nields St. There is a gravel parking lot at the intersection. Just in time for the holidays, Santa’s Paradise Express is pulling in to Strasburg Rail Road Thanksgiving weekend, starting November 26, 2010. Join Santa on his journey to spread the magic of the season to thousands of families who believe. Trains start running at 11:00 am each weekend. Tickets are priced at $17 for adults, $10 for children ages 3-11, and $3 for kids 3 and under. The New Hope & Ivyland Railroad once again welcomes Santa and Mrs. Claus along with a whole host of holiday revelers. The North Pole’s most famous resident will be parking his sleigh and riding aboard the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad’s steam powered “North Pole Express.” Santa will be visiting onboard with children, while posing for photographs and offering them a small gift and holiday wishes!

Face painting and tree ornament crafts at the Radnor Fire Co. Carolers stroll the streets of Wayne. The Valley Forge Military Academy & College Choir sings Christmas carols at the Wayne Train Station. Then the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and countdown.

Get ready to ring in the season with the MARS drinks Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade in Downtown West Chester set to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3. The parade, presented annually since 1980 by the Chamber of Commerce of Greater West Chester (GWCC), is the highlight of the four day Old Fashioned Christmas celebration held Thurs., Dec. 2. through Sun., Dec. 5 featuring over forty events including theatrical and musical performances, guided walking tours, a holiday craft bazaar and breakfast with Santa.

Prior to the parade, many businesses and organizations throughout the downtown will host Holiday Open Houses featuring refreshments and seasonal entertainment. At 6:30 p.m., the Second Annual Jingle Elf Run, sponsored by First Niagara Bank, kicks off at Market and High Streets with a 2-mile run and a 1-mile walk. Proceeds from the Jingle Elf Run benefit Family Service of Chester County.

The Narberth Dickens Festival draws thousands to Narberth every year, and is the fastest-growing holiday event in Montgomery County. It’s a free family event held each December on the streets of downtown Narberth. In this Dickens-themed event, the town of Narberth is transformed into 1840’s London, as Ebeneezer Scrooge and all the characters from A Christmas Carol roam the streets for an afternoon.

It will be a Dickens of a weekend at Byers’ Choice Ltd. when Gerald Charles Dickens, the great-great grandson of famed author Charles Dickens, captures audiences as he performs his one-man show of “A Christmas Carol” from December 11th and 12th.

While attending “A Christmas Carol,” guests are welcome to explore the Byers’ Choice Visitor Center, which pays homage to Dickensian England as gas lanterns and cobblestone streets pave the way through a life-size recreation of an olde London street scene.

Show times at Byers’ Choice are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12. Tickets are $18 each and can be purchased online at www.byerschoice.com or by calling 215-822-6700. Seating is limited and previous performances have sold out. Interested guests are encouraged to reserve seats early.
