Buzz: Ladies Day at The Devon Horse Show 2014

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair’s highly anticipated ‘Ladies Day’ will take place this year on Wednesday, May 28th. The theme this year is ‘Ribbons and Pearls’ and will be an elegant take on tailgating.

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair’s highly anticipated ‘Ladies Day’ will take place this year on Wednesday, May 28th. The theme this year is ‘Ribbons and Pearls’ and will be an elegant take on tailgating.

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair’s highly anticipated Ladies Day will take place this year on Wednesday, May 28th, 2014. The theme this year is ‘Ribbons and Pearls’ and will be an elegant interpretation on tailgating. As always, the event will include the beloved ‘Hat Contest’ featuring all manner of millinery confection, from couture to creative. Local florists will add to the theme by creating table top displays using hat boxes, ribbons and pearls. All Hat Contest participants will be welcomed at a posh champagne reception following the contest.

For those looking to make a day of it, tables are available for a buffet luncheon.
Ladies Day Committee Chairman, MaryKay Bergan, Darlene DiGorio and Laura Wood and Eileen Devine are very pleased to welcome presenting sponsor of the 2014 Ladies’ Day festivities, Walter J. Cook Jewelers of Paoli.

Fellow sponsors are Celebrity Cruises, Dressage Collections, J Maki Winery, Main Line Land Rover/Jaguar, Pinnacle Vodka and Wayne Magazine.

Registration for the Hat Contest begins at 9:30AM. The contest will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Categories this year include; Best of Devon, Most Fascinating, Best Hat to Toe, and Best in Show. Carson Kressley will be returning to judge the contest this year. Other judges include, Michael Cook of presenting sponsor, Walter J Cook Jewelers, Michael Smythe of Main Line Land Rover and Jaguar, Main Line Media News’s Caroline O’Halloran, Laurie Wight , publisher of Wayne Magazine, and New York milliner, Brenda Waites-Bolling.

All of the lucky winners will receive a Scout bag with the Devon logo, a coveted Devon ribbon, Pinnacle Cinnabon Vodka with the signature cocktail recipe card and Devon souvenir cocktail glasses. The winners will also present the trophy for Ladies Side Saddle, a photo by Brenda Carpenter and a Chanel prize item. The winner in each category will receive additional prizes with Best in Show receiving a pearl bracelet valued at $400.00 from Walter J. Cook Jeweler and box in the Main Grandstand that evening catered by Main Line Land Rover/Jaguar.

Along with the champagne, signature Pinnacle “Brunchy Punchy” and hor d’oeuvres reception following the contest, the $45 entry fee includes a “Passport to Elegance,” entitling the bearer to special enticements at the boutiques and food booths throughout the Country Fair.

All of the Country Fair boutiques will offer a raffle prize. Each passport contains tickets that may be used to enter into the raffles of choice. Those who have their passport stamped by 35 of the participating boutiques will be entered in a Grand Prize drawing valued at over $500.

Tables seating eight are available for $500 and include registration in the Hat Contest, the “Passport to Elegance” and an elegant buffet luncheon from noon until 2PM, champagne included.

All ladies who arrive prior to 1PM sporting a topper will be treated to free general admission. Ricoh USA will be providing shuttle service from Devon’s Berkeley Road property, located 3 blocks west of the Show Grounds, one block south of Lancaster Avenue. Shuttle service will begin at 9:30AM.
